In the first quarter-final game between the Moser Medical Graz99ers and the EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV, only three goals were scored in just under 75 minutes. The match was decided in extra time. There the people of Graz celebrated Josh Currie’s winning goal.
The Moser Medical Graz99ers celebrated their fourth win in a row against Villach, but had to fight hard for it in the sold-out Merkur Ice Stadium. The Carinthians had the better chances in the first third, but Graz goalie Lagacé made several strong saves. Just 41 seconds after the restart, Helewka gave the guests the lead with a well-placed shot. Shortly before the end of the middle period, ex-Villacher Collins equalized with his goal. Both teams continued to put forward offensive accents, but after 60 minutes the score was still 1-1. In extra time, Currie made everything clear in the 75th minute – after an ideal pass from Ganahl, he scored the 2-1 winning goal.
