Reid McNeill returns to the ICE Hockey League back and intensified during the hot phase of the season HK Olimpija Ljubljana. The 33-year-old Canadian should become a mainstay of the defense in the playoffs.
McNeill is coming from Lions Frankfurt from the German DEL, where he played 49 games this season (2 goals, 10 assists). In total, he played in Frankfurt for five years and was captain there for three seasons.
The robust (1.93m, 98kg), defensively strong defender was selected in the 2010 NHL draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins selected and spent much of his North American career on the organization’s farm team in the AHL.
McNeill previously gained European experience in the then EBEL (now ICEHL) for the Dornbirn Bulldogs and in Denmark. Now comes the return to the league, just in time for the start of the playoffs on March 10th. Ljubljana is reacting to defensive injuries and relying on McNeill’s physicality, experience and leadership.
Olimpija finished the regular round in sixth place and is now preparing intensively for the quarter-finals. The best-of-seven series begins on March 10th.
