Violent accusations against Rikard Grönborg: The former coach of the ZSC Lions has been suspended for three games by the Finnish Liiga. In addition, his current club must Tappara pay a fine of 10,000 euros.
The trigger for the sanction was a game between Tappara and JYP Jyväskylä. The first physical altercation broke out after just 17 seconds: Emil Sylvegård (Tappara) and Antti Tyrväinen (JYP) attacked each other. In the final minutes the encounter escalated again as two more fist fights followed.
The league accuses Grönborg of either directly ordering the fights or at least tolerating them. Although concrete evidence was not presented publicly, the disciplinary committee still sees the coach as responsible for the incidents on the ice.
