He is the figurehead of the Steinbach Black Wings Linz and has been an integral part of the Upper Austrian squad for what feels like an eternity. And that’s what the Austro-Canadian will continue to be.
At 37 years old, Brian Lebler still hasn’t had enough. The Linzers announced the contract extension via social media (link) – so the long-time business administration attacker remains on board.
In 2011, Lebler made his debut in the Stahlstädter uniform and has played an impressive 679 games this season for the Black Wings – two for EC Red Bull Salzburg, to which Lebler was loaned out towards the end of the 2021/22 season. At that time, the winger won his second championship trophy. He won the first in his first season in what was then the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League.
With 651 points, Lebler is currently in third place in the all-time rankings in the domestic league. Only John Hughes (963) and Thomas Koch (749) are ahead of him. He is already number 1 in goals scored – 375 goals underline the goalscoring qualities of the Klagenfurt-born crack. If you include the playoffs, then Lebler has 425 direct hits in 791 appearances. For comparison: the second best goalscorer in league history has 347 goals in 1,013 games.
The multiple national player will be entering his 15th season in 2026/27 and wants to lead the Black Wings back into the playoffs. It’s definitely not Lebler’s fault this year, because the old master delivered again with 21 goals and 41 points – another 20-goal season can definitely be expected from the legendary #7.
