The Graz 99ers are causing a sensation shortly before the season finale. After the emotional 4:2 win against the KAC, the Graz team set new records – both in sport and off the ice.
Comeback qualities as a statement
For the second time in a row, the 99ers turned a 0-2 deficit into a win against the KAC. For Lukas Haudum it was a game with a signal effect: “At the moment it might just be a win, but someone like that does something to the team,” the 28-year-old told the “Crown newspaper“. “The game had play-off character. The atmosphere was amazing! There was real fire in there. The game made me want to go to the play-offs.”
The message to the record champions is clear: Graz is a serious opponent this season, because three wins against the Carinthians speak for themselves.
Haudum is assist king
With 49 points from 43 games, the Linz native is one of the decisive factors in the successful run. Particularly outstanding: His 40 assists are a league record. By the way, teammate Nick Bailen (39) is in second place. At the same time, the 99ers have surpassed the previous points record from the 2018/19 season (87 points). Haudum is pleased: “I didn’t know that, of course I’m happy. A lot of people were brought to Graz for a mission.”
A mission that for many fans points towards the title – but for Haudum it’s the big picture that counts: “Many people talk about the title. But it’s about the big picture. What President Herbert Jerich has built up for the fans.”
Much praise for President Jerich
There is great recognition for President Herbert Jerich, who has further developed the club’s structure: “Herb not only invests money, but does so much more than just making transfers. What he brings with him above all is a lot of expertise.”
The numbers also underline the upswing of the people of Murstadt: an average of 3,457 fans made the pilgrimage to the “Bunker”, which is also a new record. The upcoming home game against EC VSV is already sold out.
Champions League within reach
The 99ers continue to be fully involved in the fight for the regular season victory. Two points are still missing to secure a Champions League starting place. Haudum remains focused: “I don’t want to do the math, I just want to get three wins. Then we’ll see.” He doesn’t have a favorite opponent for the play-offs: “We’ll wait and see who’s available and then discuss…”
One thing is clear: The 99ers are entering the decisive phase of the season with self-confidence, records and broad support from the stands.
