Another racist incident is causing concern in the
Alps Hockey League
for outrage and once again highlights a problem that should have no place in sport.
At the playoff quarterfinal game between
HC Gherdëina and the
Red Bull Juniors Salzburg There was an incident at the Pranives Stadium that pushed the sporting significance of the game into the background. A player from the visitors was racially insulted from the stands – an incident that not only caused horror, but also drew immediate reactions.
The HCG acted immediately and published a clear statement. In it, the club unequivocally distanced itself from the events and condemned the insults in the strongest possible terms. At the same time, those responsible apologized to the affected player and emphasized that values such as respect, fairness and tolerance are inextricably linked to ice hockey.
“Racism has no place in sport or in society,” the club said and announced that it would do everything in its power to find the person responsible.
Particularly explosive: This is not the first incident of this kind in the league. Just recently there was already a game of
HC Meran similar allegations were made.
