While the quarter-final opener between the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it took place in the Alps Hockey League on Wednesday evening, the second games in the remaining three series are already on the program on Thursday. The EK Die Zeller Eisbären and KHL Sisak can make it 2-0 away, while HC Meran/o Pircher is aiming for their second win in front of their home crowd. The second encounter between Val Gardena and the Juniors will take place on Friday in South Tyrol.
The EK The Zeller Eisbären started the playoffs with a 4-1 home win against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. For the Pinzgauer it was the ninth win in a row and the fifth in the sixth duel with Vipiteno. They have won all three away matches so far this season, most recently with a clear score of 9-2 at the end of February.
Sisak wants to follow up with his first win of the season in Cortina
In addition to Zell am See, KHL Sisak also started the quarter-finals with a home win. For the Croatians, the 2-1 win was their first ever playoff success in the Alps Hockey League. Goalkeeper Vilim Rosandic shone with 47 saves and was very satisfied after the game: “We played good ice hockey in all three zones. We didn’t lose many pucks and played very responsibly. They had 48 shots, but I wouldn’t say that many of them were high-quality scoring chances. Our defense definitely made it easier for me tonight. If we perform the same way again, we have a good chance of taking a 2-0 lead in the series on Thursday.” In the fourth duel of the season with Cortina it was Sisak’s second win, but they have not yet been successful away from home.
Asiago in Meran is already under pressure
HC Migross Asiago was the only home team to admit defeat at the start on Tuesday, 2:4 against HC Meran/o Pircher. It was their second victory in the fourth duel of the season with Asiago, both successes the Eagles won away from home. In a close game, Reid Stefanson scored the 3-2 game winner in the 49th minute. For Meran it was already the seventh win in a row.
Val Gardena starts at home against Salzburg on Friday
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it only start the quarter-finals on Wednesday evening. Game two of the series takes place on Friday in Val Gardena.
