HC Gherdeina equalized the semi-final series against EK Zeller Eisbären with another home win. The South Tyroleans won 2-1 on Thursday evening in front of over 1,600 spectators. HC Meran/o Pircher also made its series against KHL Sisak 2-2. The “Adlers” celebrated a 3-2 home win after extra time – Rasmus Nousiainen decided the game in the 64th minute.
Val Gardena started strong, tested EKZ goalie Schmidt several times and took the lead after just six minutes through Dostalek, who used a rebound. After that, the guests found their way into the game better, but it remained 1-0 until the first break. After the restart, the defending champions survived being twice outnumbered before both teams met on equal terms. In the final third, Zell am See increased the pressure and equalized in the 49th minute: the puck jumped to Widhalm, who let a defender out and scored to make it 1-1. Shortly afterwards, Val Gardena goalie Endre parried a penalty from Szypula. In the final phase, the home team took advantage of uncertainty in Zell’s defense – Luisetti took the lead again. Despite the final offensive and the superiority, Zell did not score again, Endre saved Val Gardena’s home victory.
Meran also narrowly wins
Meran also kept its semi-final series against Sisak open. Just 24 hours after the Croatians’ 4-1 win, the teams met again in the Meranarena. The home team dominated long stretches of the first third, and 14 seconds before the siren, Tomasini scored from a rebound to take the deserved lead. Like the day before, Sisak had an answer ready early in the middle period: Marinkovic used a lot of space in the power play and scored the equalizer in the top corner. In the final third, the South Tyroleans went ahead again through Larcher before Kim scored shortly afterwards to make it 2-2. In extra time, Rasmus Nousiainen finally made the decision in front of over 1,300 fans – in the 64th minute he finished alone in front of Sisak goalie Nikolic and secured Meran’s 3-2 victory.
