Nikita Scherbak will probably also play for Villacher SV next season. According to the “Kleine Zeitung”, the offensive player is still under contract with the Adler.
The 30-year-old Russian confirmed his role as a key player again this year: in 43 games he collected 10 goals and 33 assists (43 points), making him once again one of the most productive players in the squad. Especially at the beginning of the season, the former NHL crack was the offensive figurehead of the blue-whites. He had already delivered 36 points in 48 games the season before.
His quality clearly lies in his game structure. Scherbak is not just a goalscorer, but a creative playmaker who controls the pace and puts teammates in the spotlight. This role is also reflected in his numbers: 33 assists are a top value for the team.
A look at his career highlights his talent: He was drafted in the first round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2014, played games in the NHL, was active in the AHL, KHL and several top European leagues. The Russian has now scored in Villach for the last two years.
However, the end of the season also showed another side: Scherbak remained without a point in the last five games and finished the playoff series with just two assists.
