Ice-cold exploitation of opportunities: Fehervar surprises in Klagenfurt!

Fehervar gets the break in Klagenfurt! With a narrow 3:4 away win, the Hungarians take the 3:2 series lead and can play the duel at home on Wednesday. Klagenfurt had more than twice as many shots on goal.

The EC-KAC started dominantly in the fifth quarter-final game against Hydro Fehérvár AV19 in front of 4,300 fans. After numerous chances in the first few minutes, Raphael Herburger finally made it 1-0 in the seventh minute after Jan Mursak contributed most of the goal with a sensational advance and a no-look assist. But the guests found their way into the game better as the third progressed and were rewarded in the 15th minute: After two hair-raising errors in the Red Jackets’ build-up, Justin Richards scored to make it 1-1. As a result, the KAC continued to have more of the game, with the Hungarians also repeatedly coming dangerously close to Sebastian Dahm’s goal.

In the 29th minute it was Mathias From who scored with a perfect wrist shot into the top corner to make it 2-1 for Klagenfurt. But once again they made life difficult for themselves with individual mistakes. In the 34th minute, From played on the opposing blue line directly to the stick of Trevor Cheek, who ran alone to goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm and scored ice-cold to equalize 2-2.

With this score we entered the final period, in which the guests from Hungary got off to a perfect start: Ole Einar scored Engeland Andersen in the 44th minute, Anze Kuralt in the 47th minute – and Fehérvár pulled ahead to 4-2 and thus took a big step towards an away win.

But the KAC didn’t give up and just three and a half minutes later they made it 3:4 thanks to a sensational solo effort by Mathias From. It was the Dane’s 30th goal of the season and his fourth brace of the season, and he also scored a hat trick this season. As a result, the Red Jackets clearly set the tone and created one great chance after another, while Fehérvár almost only reacted. In the end, however, the Hungarians managed the narrow away win and therefore have their first chance to make it to the semi-finals on Wednesday in front of their home crowd. ORF Sport+ will broadcast the game live from Székesfehérvár from 7:15 p.m.
