DEL2: Record game in the German substructure!

A historic game was played in the DEL2 playoff quarter-finals between Rosenheim and Regensburg: the decision was only made after 122 minutes and 35 seconds – in the fourth extra time.

Regensburg won 6-5 in front of over 4,400 spectators when Bryce Kindopp scored the winning goal. This makes it the longest game in DEL2 history and the second longest in German ice hockey.

The game lasted more than five and a half hours (start at 5:00 p.m., end at 10:36 p.m.) and demanded everything from both teams. Kindopp spoke of pure exhaustion after the game, while Rosenheim coach Jari Pasanen described the game as “torture”. Regensburg now leads 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.

In the other quarter-final duels, Krefeld won against Landshut (3-0 in the series), Bietigheim won in Ravensburg (2-1), and Weißwasser prevailed in Kassel (1-2).

For comparison: The German record is 168 minutes (Kölner Haie vs. Adler Mannheim, 2008), while the longest game in the world lasted over 217 minutes in Norway in 2017. At the NHL level, the record is 176 minutes, set in 1936 between the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Maroons. The duel between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, which lasted a whopping 139 minutes of net playing time on May 18, 2023, is even more memorable.
