After the disappointing end of the season in the quarter-finals against the Graz99ers – VSV said goodbye with a clear sweep – the focus in Villach is already on the coming season. One thing seems clear: an existing contract at VSV apparently does not guarantee a place in the squad next season.
General Manager Martin Winkler found clear words after the end and announced a consistent course. “It is openly communicated what we expect. The players have to think about whether they want to go along with it. Otherwise we can terminate contracts,” he made it clear.
These statements indicate that a change could be imminent at VSV. After the clear defeat against the Graz99ers, the sporting leadership is apparently not prepared to accept the status quo. Rather, players should be held even more accountable in the future – regardless of their current contract situation.
The first squad decisions are likely to be made in the coming weeks. Anyone who is not prepared to follow the path chosen by head coach Pierre Allard could leave the club despite the current contract.
