Transfer news: Michael Kernberger changes within the league!

The sparrows have been whistling from the roof for a long time – now it’s official: Michael Kernberger will play for HC TIWAG Innsbruck in the future. The 29-year-old native of Klagenfurt played most of the past season for the Pioneers Vorarlberg, previously made four appearances for the Black Wings Linz, and most recently strengthened the VSV in the playoffs.

With Kernberger, an experienced Austrian defender is coming to Innsbruck who knows the ICE Hockey League very well and should bring stability to our defense with his physical style of play. Michael brings a lot of routine, leadership and professionalism – qualities that will help our team on and off the ice.

Michael Kernberger:

“Right from the start, it was important for me to take on a good role in my future team. The conversations were consistently positive and appreciative, and I clearly felt that they were trying to look after me. I was particularly impressed by the clear vision of building something in the long term. I am very happy to be part of this journey.”

HC TIWAG Innsbruck head coach Ryan Kinasewich:

“We are very pleased to welcome Michael to our club. He brings with him an impressive resume from his time in the Austrian national team and his many years of experience in our league. Our goal as a club is to build a strong defense for the coming season, and he is an important building block for this.

Assistant Coach Florian Pedevilla:

“Michael knows the league extremely well and brings important stability to our defense with his routine from numerous games in the ICE Hockey League as well as his physical style of play. We are convinced that he will play a central role in our further development and will be an important building block for a successful future for the Sharks.”
