Ex-99er Daniel Woger: “Yes, I believe that Graz can become champions!”

The Moser Medical Graz99ers got their semi-final ticket yesterday. The Styrians completed the “sweep” with a clear 6:2 away win at EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV. A former 99ers crack also believes his former employer can win the title.

Daniel Woger only recently ended his active career; the Vorarlberg native played 17 seasons in the domestic league. In nine of them he also put on the Graz99ers jersey. “I spent half my career with the 99ers. Graz, this club and the city will always have a place in my heart. And if time allows, I will come by too. I will always have a connection with this place, I have found friends for life in Graz with ex-colleagues like Daniel Oberkofler,” Woger told the “Crown newspaper“.

His adventure in the Murstadt began in the 2009 season, followed by a season for the Vienna Capitals after three years, and then his comeback in Graz in the summer of 2013. He played there until 2018 before moving to Linz, Dornbirn and also Switzerland to HC Thurgau. In 2022/23, the now 38-year-old from Bregenz celebrated his comeback in the bunker. In total, he played in 403 games this season for the Styrians. This puts him in third place on the all-time 99ers best list, which is led by Zintis Zusevics with 461. Kevin Moderer is in second place with 410 appearances.

The former national team player ended his active career in his homeland, he spent three years for the Pioneers Vorarlberg, but now there are new tasks on the agenda, but he will continue to follow the sport of ice hockey: “Sure, I also watch a lot of 99ers games. It’s great what’s happening there at the moment. I experienced wonderful, beautiful times in Graz myself. We also won the basic round once under Bill Gilligan, and we had a great mix of good ones back then “We had an Austrian tribe and strong import players. But in the end we had a lot of ups and downs and never landed the big hit.”

Graz99ers as top favorites?

Woger 99ers President Herbert Jerich scatters flowers: “Greatest recognition to 99ers President Herbert Jerich, whom I got to know when he was Vice President, and his team. Something big can happen here.” For Woger, the people of Graz are definitely one of the favorites for the title: “Yes, I believe that Graz can become champions. Jerich makes no secret of his ambitions. I like that. He doesn’t beat around the bush for long, he says straight up that he wants to be successful.”

Woger won’t completely disappear from the ice because: “I never became champion. I almost have to make up for that.” It is entirely conceivable that the 701-fold ICEHL crack will remain in the ÖEL for a few more years.
