At the Villacher SV There are signs of a farewell: after the exit in the playoff duel against the Graz99ers became a veteran Mark Katic said goodbye to his teammates – there are many indications that the 36-year-old defender is ending his active career.
Katic looks back on a long and international career. The Canadian-born defender was signed in 2007 by the New York Islanders drafted and even collected appearances in the NHL. Although he played eleven games in the best league in the world, he was able to establish himself over several years, especially in the AHL.
Katic then spent his most successful years in Europe. In the KHL He played for Medvescak Zagreb for several seasons and developed into a reliable two-way defender. Also in Sweden at Skellefteå AIK and in Germany at the Adler Mannheim he left a lasting impression. He celebrated great success with Mannheim and became German champion several times – he was also one of the highest-scoring defenders in the league.
Katic spent the last years of his career in the ICEHL at Villacher SV. He has been on the ice for the Carinthians since 2023 and, above all, brought experience to the defense. Even though his offensive numbers have recently declined, he remained an important leader on the team.
