After the first discussions about their early exit from the win2day ICE Hockey League, some personnel decisions have been made at the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. Accordingly, several faces, including Sean Collins, Ken Ograjensek, Ryan MacKinnon and Tim Geifes, will be leaving the steel city.
Year after year, these are the most difficult decisions that head coach Philipp Lukas and his coaching team have to make at this point in time. Immediately after the final siren last Friday in the pre-playoffs, the Upper Austrians began setting the course for the short and medium-term future. In the first few days, these resulted in many intensive discussions and analyzes by all those responsible.
The top priority was individual feedback discussions within the team, in which a wide variety of topics were discussed on and off the ice. One sticking point: With an average age of 28.07 years, the Upper Austrians were by far the “most experienced” team in a league-wide comparison. Conversely, speed, endurance and other physical elements in the game were among the most obvious development potentials. After the early exit from the championship and missing their goals for the season, personnel consequences were unavoidable. For the first time since its realignment four years ago, the sporting leadership has had a much more extensive change than before.
In a first round, this will take place primarily in the Legionnaires sector: The expiring contracts of Sean Collins, Ken Ograjensek and Ryan MacKinnon will therefore not be extended. Tim Geifes is also the first red-white-red departure. Further decisions by Linz regarding their squad planning will follow shortly.
