After Murray collapse: “The shock in our dressing room was huge”

The dramatic incident involving defender Jordan Murray has overshadowed the ice hockey playoffs of the ICE Hockey League. After the Klagenfurter AC player suffered a cardiac arrest on the ice during the quarter-final game against Fehervar AV19 and had to be resuscitated, there was great consternation throughout the league.

The news also caused consternation at HC Pustertal. The Wolves previously had every reason to be happy: At the start of the quarter-final series against Red Bull Salzburg, the South Tyroleans achieved a much celebrated overtime away win.

But when the players found out about the medical emergency in Klagenfurt after the game, their sporting success quickly faded into the background. “The shock in our dressing room was huge when we found out,” explained striker Matthias Mantinger to “Sportnews”. In moments like this, it becomes clear that sport only plays a secondary role: “This is about a human life, which is 100,000 times more important than sport.”

However, there is now positive news: Murray is on the mend. The 33-year-old Canadian is stable and should have woken up from artificial deep sleep and should be responsive.
