The first three games in the quarterfinals of the Alps Hockey League brought two home wins and one away win. Defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären defeated Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan at home 4-1, while KHL Sisak prevailed against SG Cortina 2-1. Meanwhile, HC Meran/o Pircher secured a 4-2 away win at HC Migross Asiago. The fourth quarter-final series between Red Bull Hockey Juniors and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it opens on Wednesday.
The EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated its ninth win in a row and is making a successful start to the pre-playoffs. In a very close game against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, the Pinzgauer team prevailed 4-1 in front of over 1,900 fans. Until eleven and a half minutes before the end it was still a 1-1 draw, but thanks to goals from Christian Jennes (49th), Alexander Lahoda (52nd) and Tim Coffman (58th/EN), the result was a clear home win. First, Vipiteno even took the lead through Connor Sanvido in the 6th minute and it took until the 31st minute before the home team equalized through Kilian Rappold. In the sixth duel of the season, it was the Eisbären’s fifth win.
Sisak with a narrow home win against Cortina
KHL Sisak celebrated a narrow 2-1 win against SG Cortina Hafro. Almost 1,600 fans didn’t want to miss the game and ultimately the first playoff victory in the Alps Hockey League and were able to celebrate for the first time in the thirteenth minute after Danila Larionovs scored to make it 1-0. In the 26th minute, the Croatians even increased the lead to 2-0 through Marijus Dumcius, but Cortina scored again in the second third through Jacob Stoffling (36th/PP1). In the final period the Italians clearly set the tone with 15:4 shots on goal, but Sisak goalie Vilim Rosandic could no longer be overcome and in the end parried 47 of the 48 shots on goal.
Merano steals home advantage from Asiago
HC Meran/o Pircher celebrated their only away win of the day against HC Migross Asiago. In the 4-2 win, the South Tyroleans took the lead in the third minute through Daniel Gellon and in the 30th minute Filip Cruseman made it 2-0. In the final section, Asiago got going better in front of 1,300 fans and even equalized with a brace from Nick Porco (44th & 48th). But just a minute and a half later, Meran was able to present again through Reid Stefanson and this time the home team had no answer. Nick Rein finally scored the final score with an empty netter 67 seconds before the end of the game.
