Positive news: Jordan Murray is conscious again!

After the dramatic incident in the KAC play-off game against Fehervar, there is cautiously positive news for the first time: According to “Krone” information, defender Jordan Murray is conscious again. The 33-year-old Canadian continues to receive medical care at the Klagenfurt Clinic.

Murray collapsed on the players’ bench in the 18th minute of the game on Tuesday evening and suffered a cardiac arrest. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated. Doctors and paramedics fought for the ice hockey professional’s life for several minutes before he could be stabilized and taken to hospital.

According to the “Kronen Zeitung”, among the first responders was the Klagenfurt pediatrician and emergency doctor Christoph Arneitz, who was in the hall as a spectator. When he noticed that CPR was being carried out, he rushed to the players’ bench to help.

The helpers worked hand in hand together with the KAC team doctors Hannes Florianz and Günther Bachler, an anesthetist from the clinic and an air rescuer. “We had our hands full. The basic resuscitation measures were implemented very well. Defibrillation was also used,” Arneitz described to the “Krone”.

The interaction of everyone involved was particularly important. “Everyone stuck together as a unit. Everyone tried to help. The rescue chain worked perfectly – from medical care to all-round management,” said the emergency doctor.

The events deeply shocked the team and fans. The KAC training was canceled on Wednesday and the players were informed about the health of their teammate. The next games in the quarter-final series against Fehervar were also suspended for the time being. The series could be continued in a shortened form on Monday at the earliest.
