After 2022, Marco Kasper will be awarded the title of “Player of the Year” for the second time in his young career.
The 21-year-old completed his first full season in the NHL in 2024/2025, scoring 19 goals and 18 assists. At the 2025 World Cup in Stockholm, the center played a key role in the historic quarter-finals, scoring four goals and three assists during the tournament. In the current NHL season he was able to improve his statistics with another goal in the second game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He broke his first dry spell at the end of October with a brace against the LA Kings before he had to be patient again. It wasn’t until January that he scored his fourth goal of the season. “If things don’t go well offensively, it’s difficult,” he says openly about this phase. Hard, continuous work and the support of his family, coaches and teammates allowed him to grow. He recently played a key role in the 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators with two assists.
The stated goal for this season: “We haven’t been in the playoffs for a while and we’re hungry.” If he misses this or is eliminated early as a result, the World Cup in Switzerland would be an issue for him again this year.
Rohrer and Rossi complete the podium
Since 2025, Vinzenz Rohrer has been able to call himself a two-time Swiss champion and Champions Hockey League winner. Like Marco Kasper, he also left his mark on the 2025 World Cup, after which he dared to move overseas to the Montreal Canadiens. For the current season he returned to the ZSC Lions in Switzerland, but the motivation to play in the NHL one day seems to have increased: “I now have another year of development in Zurich, I will try to take on a bigger role here, play a lot and then want to attack again next year.”
With 24 goals and 36 assists, compatriot Marco Rossi worked his way up to become the Minnesota Wild’s second-best scorer in the 2024/2025 season. The reward: a three-year contract worth $15 million. In November, he was sidelined by a lower-body injury that kept him out for several weeks. During this time he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks. The Canadians have expressed interest in Rossi for a long time. They are currently well away from the playoff places, which means participation in the World Cup cannot be ruled out.
