The Vienna Capitals have to accept another bitter loss before the crucial pre-playoff game. Defender Randy Gazzola sustained a serious upper body injury in the second match of the best of three series against Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and will be out of the team for several weeks.
The Canadian was injured in Friday’s hard-fought game in Fehérvár, which the Capitals lost 3-7. The series is now 1-1, meaning the all-important third game will take place on Sunday in the STEFFL Arena. For the Viennese, it’s about making it to the quarter-finals – a defeat would mean the end of the season.
Gazzola joins an already long injury list for the Capitals. Erik Kirchschläger, Nelson Nogier, Senna Peeters and Marco Richter had already been identified as long-term injuries. In addition, there are several ailing players whose deployment will only be decided at short notice. Defender Simon Bourque is also out, he was suspended after a tough check.
