Kevin Hancock became the match winner in the first pre-playoff game between EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV and the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The striker scored both goals and Villach could secure playoff qualification on Friday.
In Villach, the game initially developed into an even game: VSV was unable to capitalize on two power plays, and Teasdale also missed a great chance to take the lead. The guests became more dangerous in the second third – Romig missed two good opportunities before defender Kragl scored a rebound to give Linz the lead. But in the final period the home team came back: after more than 160 goalless minutes, Hancock managed to equalize. In the final phase, the Upper Austrians pushed for the next goal, but the score remained 1-1 after 60 minutes. The Carinthians dominated in overtime, and finally it was Hancock again who made the decision with a shot into the short Kreueck. This means that the Linzers will be fighting against the early end of the season in front of their home crowd on Friday.
