The ICEHL has lost several top performers in recent seasons who are now continuing their careers in other leagues. Some players hit the ground running straight away, others need a bit of a start, but everyone shows that the league is a good breeding ground for talent and experienced professionals. In the next three parts, we’ll look at the most exciting departures – from top scorers to defenders to goalkeepers – and follow how they fare in their new teams. After the first part, we now look again at four former ICEHL cracks.
Ryan Murphy (formerly EC Red Bull Salzburg – now EHC Red Bull Munich)
Ryan Murphy shaped Salzburg’s defense for two years and scored 89 points in 112 games. He was a dominant player both defensively and offensively. In the summer he followed coach Oliver David to Munich and immediately established himself as a central player there. With 33 points in 42 games, he shows that he can absolutely keep up at DEL level. Murphy’s experience and leadership qualities make him an indispensable part of Munich’s defense, which he leads in points!
Corey Mackin (formerly HC Innsbruck – now Ice Pirates Crimmitschau)
Corey Mackin was a figurehead in Innsbruck for over three years, collecting 106 points in 143 games and impressing with his fighting spirit. After the ICEHL, he moved to the Eispirate Crimmitschau for the DEL2 playoffs and scored 23 points in 21 games. Mackin is delivering consistently this season too: 55 points in 43 games. That’s why the striker is also a sought-after man within the league. According to rumors, he is likely to move to the Krefeld Pinguins next season.
Mark Rassell (formerly HC Innsbruck – now Ravensburg Tower Stars)
Mark Rassell scored 35 points in 44 games in Innsbruck last season, including 24 goals. After a short stint with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, he moved to the Ravensburg Towerstars in the DEL2 this season. There he immediately found his way back to his old strength, scored 61 points in 50 games and became a central offensive player. His finishing skills make him a key player. Ravensburg rewarded his performance with an early contract extension. Rassell has settled in ideally in the DEL2 and is producing consistently.
Joe Cramarossa (formerly Vienna Capitals – now Augsburg Panthers)
Joe Cramarossa came to the Vienna Capitals as a 68-time NHL player and scored 23 points in 32 games – one of the few bright spots on the team last season. After the season he moved to the DEL to the Augsburg Panthers. So far he has 19 points in 35 games, including four goals. Cramarossa couldn’t really contribute much to the Panthers’ offense. They will most likely miss the playoffs in the DEL.
