In the final of the Champions Hockey League there was an all-Swedish duel between Frölunda HC and Lulea HF and the game kept its promises. In an exciting and high-class encounter, Frölunda prevailed 3-2 after extra time in front of their home crowd in Gothenburg and thus secured the title.
After two goalless periods, Swede Nicklas Lasu gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when they were outnumbered. However, Luleå showed morale: The Finn Eetu Koivistoinen equalized to 1-1 shortly after the restart in the 42nd minute of the game. In the 48th minute, Jacob Peterson made the fans in Gothenburg cheer again when he deflected the ball into the net to give Frölunda a 2-1 lead.
But the final remained dramatic until the last second. Just 15 seconds before the end of regular time, Otto Leskinen scored the much celebrated equalizer for Luleå and saved his team into extra time.
Eventually things progressed there Jere Innala to the match winner. The former striker of the Colorado Avalanche scored in the 65th minute and thus ensured the decision in favor of the Gothenburg team.
Frédéric Allard, a former ICEHL crack, was also on the ice: the defender played temporarily for VSV in the 2020/21 season. The game was officiated by the ICEHL referee Christoph Sternatwho served as the main referee.
