Transfer: KAC gets another striker before the playoffs!

A few hours before the end of the international transfer deadline, the EC-KAC is using the regulations in force in the win2day ICE Hockey League this year to supplement its squad for the playoffs. Long-time Red Jacket striker Marcel Witting is returning to Klagenfurt in the coming weeks and will be available to the coaching team as an additional personnel alternative in attack.

Marcel Witting moved to EC-KAC in the summer of 2011 as a junior player from his native Tyrol, where he remained loyal – including his youth and professional years – in two engagements over a total of eleven years. In a total of 257 competition games for the record champions’ fighting team, the striker scored 13 goals and prepared 21 goals for his teammates; he was part of the two most recent red and white championship teams in 2019 and 2021. Marcel Witting spent the last 2024/25 season with the Black Wings Linz, with whom he only failed in the semi-finals against the red jackets. In the current season, the now 30-year-old was under contract with his parent club HC Innsbruck, where he demonstrated his leadership qualities as an alternate captain and also had the best season in terms of points of his career in Austria’s top division with 15 points.

Since the 2025/26 season for his club ended on Sunday with the last regular season game in Salzburg, the EC-KAC took the opportunity to sign Marcel Witting as a squad addition for the 2026 playoffs. He will start team training with the Red Jackets on Wednesday and will wear the jersey with number 74 in the coming weeks.
