Next bang for the Fife Flyers from the British League! The traditional club from Scotland continues to sink into chaos – now head coach Jamie Russell has completely unexpectedly thrown out. And not through an official press conference, but with a statement on Platform X. Some ex-ICEHL cracks are affected.
The 59-year-old stated that he could no longer carry out his duties as head coach and general manager “in good conscience”. Shortly afterwards, the club confirmed the separation – but without presenting a successor. This means that the Flyers suddenly find themselves without a coach in the middle of the final spurt of the season.
Ex-ICEHL cracks already gone
The sporting decline had already become apparent. Several players have recently left the club, including well-known names from the ICEHL. Former VSV crowd favorite Anton Karlsson turned his back on the club, as did former ICEHL top scorer Giordano Finoro. Both were seen as bearers of hope for the restart. The squad planning is in ruins, as are the sporting prospects.
For the Scots, three former ICEHL cracks have been affected by the turbulence: Simon Despres (formerly VSV), Johan Porsberger (formerly Graz99ers) and Ian Scheid (formerly Black Wings Linz).
Lucic provides background noise
The personnel causes additional unrest Milan Lucic. The former NHL star is still under contract with the Flyers, but recently made negative headlines.
Club in permanent crisis mode
The Flyers are not only fighting for survival athletically (bottom of the table), but also structurally. After financial turbulence and leadership changes, the situation among the Scots is now even more tense.
