After a difficult start, Adam Helewka became a top performer for the Villacher Adlers and will remain with the Carinthians beyond the season.
The Villacher Adler are playing their last away game against the Graz99ers today before finishing the preliminary round against HC Pustertal at home on Sunday. Then it’s time for the pre-playoffs and the Eagles feel ready to pull off an upset.
“We don’t need to hide anymore. We had a really tough year. But we have grown together more and more, become a unit. That makes us dangerous now. We now want to qualify for the play-offs – and then anything is possible there,” said top scorer Adam Helewka.
After a difficult start with an abdominal muscle injury and missing the preparatory program, the 30-year-old has hit the ground running and is currently the Eagles’ top scorer. “24 goals and 22 assists are on the credit side and the Canadian immediately makes a declaration of war to the “Kronen Zeitung”: “I’m quite satisfied, but I can do more.”
He is now an assistant captain and is an integral part of Villach. Those responsible also know this and have taken precautions. A “performance-related two-year contract” was communicated for the obligation. This looks like Helewka signing a one-year contract with the club’s option for a second season.
The Adler have until the end of March to exercise the option and will certainly do so, as Herbert Hohenberger indirectly confirms: “We are totally satisfied with Adam, he is a real leader.” It is therefore already clear that the striker will stay beyond the season.
