As the most dangerous defender of the month, TJ Brennan qualified for the “Hockey News Player of the Month for January” and now won the title in the fan voting. He therefore automatically qualified for the Player of the Year vote.
Almost 100,000 votes were cast in the voting for Player of the Month for January and an exciting three-way battle for the title developed. The Graz99ers fans told the Hockey News editorial team that they were working collective night shifts to help their favorite Lukas Haudum win. In the end it was only enough for third place with an impressive 25,409 votes. A crack from Red Bull Salzburg secured second place. Travis St. Denis cracked the 30,000 vote mark and landed in second place with a respectable margin of 5,000 votes. The victory went to a defender. Laibach crack TJ Brennan received a total of 35,501 votes and won the title.
TJ Brennan is the fifth player, after December winner Tyler Coulter, November winner Rasmus Reijola, October winner Brady Shaw and September winner Nicolai Meyer, to be permanently qualified for the Player of the Season vote. The election for February’s Player of the Month will start in a few days.
