HC Gherdeina valgardena.it defeated HDD Jesenice 7-1 in front of over 1,000 fans in the only Tuesday game of the Alps Hockey League and thus secured first place in Qualification Round B. Jesenice remains bottom with three points before the last game, two points behind third place EC Bregenzerwald. On Wednesday there will be an absolute showdown for third place between Bregenzerwald and Jesenice. The Slovenians need three points to overtake Vorarlberg and qualify for the pre-playoffs.
From the start, Jesenice had no chance against Val Gardena. After just ten minutes, the South Tyroleans – for whom it was their fifth win in the fifth game of the second round – were 2-0 ahead. They added four more goals in the middle third. Six different players had been on the top scorers list up to that point, and in the end there were even seven. In the final section, Val Gardena still didn’t have enough and even pulled ahead to 7-0. It was only nine seconds before the end of the game that Jesenice scored a consolation goal, denying Val Gardena goalkeeper Claes Endre a shutout. In the end, he saved 33 of the 34 shots on goal.
With 16 points, Val Gardena is four points ahead of Ritten with one game to go and will definitely finish the Qualification Round B in first place. In the pre-playoffs, the South Tyroleans will face the third place in Qualification Round A.
