The EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV celebrated a 4:3 win after extra time at EC Red Bull Salzburg on Friday evening and thus secured two important points in the fight for the pre-playoffs. After a 3-1 deficit, the Carinthians showed their morale, fought back and finally got the upper hand in overtime.
Salzburg started powerfully and took the lead early on thanks to a shot from Peter Schneider (3rd). Nash Nienhuis increased the score to 2-0 a little later (6th). VSV responded promptly: Joel Teasdale scored with a powerful shot into the far corner of the cross to make it 1-2 (7th). In the second third, Michael Raffl made it 3-1 (28th), while Villach initially couldn’t reduce the deficit despite good opportunities.
The Eagles turned things up in the final period. Adam Helewka took advantage of a turnover to make it 2:3 (45th), before Kevin Hancock equalized (51st). In an intense final phase, the crossbar, among other things, saved the guests, so that the game went into extra time.
That’s where the decision was made: Nikita Scherbak scored the goal to make the final score 4:3 in overtime (65′).
