The day after the 5-2 win in Bolzano, the Vienna Capitals won 3-2 at HC Falkensteiner Pustertal to complete a flawless South Tyrol road trip. The Viennese get nine out of nine possible points this week. For the first time since December 2023, the Danube town team has won three competitive games in a row.
Randy Gazzola gives the Viennese the lead on the power play in the middle third after a goalless first half of the game (33rd/PP1). At the beginning of the final third, the home team equalized through Austin Rueschhoff (43′). Scott Kosmachuk puts the Kagraners back in the lead with his first goal for the Caps (50th), Jérémy Grégoire increases shortly afterwards (52nd). Cole Bardreau scores the next goal with the extra attacker on the ice (58th), but the Caps win over time. This puts the Viennese in tenth place in the table. On December 26th, the Caps continue with an away game against their neighbors Hydro Fehérvár AV19 (5.30 p.m.).
Statement Kevin Constantine, head coach of the Vienna Capitals
This was a great win for us today for many reasons. On the one hand, Pustertal is a very good team. Playing away is always difficult. Playing two days in a row is always a challenge, especially when your opponent has fresher legs. It was important that we got through the first third without conceding a goal. They were a little better and had better opportunities than us. Taking the lead was important. They equalized, but we found a way to win. It was a tough trip for us, but we got two great wins against two strong opponents.
