HC Pustertal and Jon Blum are going their separate ways after just one season. The former NHL defender does not receive a new contract offer from the Wolves and is leaving the club immediately.
Presented as a royal transfer
The expectations of the 37-year-old American were correspondingly high when he signed him last summer. Back then, HC Pustertal presented Blum as a real royal transfer. With his NHL experience and successful years in Europe, the defender should set the tone, especially in the power play, and lead the way as a leader.
Solid numbers, but not enough impact
From a purely statistical perspective, the veteran’s season went quite well. Blum collected 26 points in 42 games and also had the team’s best plus-minus record.
Nevertheless, the defender’s influence on the game fell short of expectations for long stretches. The hoped-for creativity from the blue line was often missing, particularly offensively.
The future remains open
Now it is clear: HC Pustertal is no longer planning with the veteran. Blum will leave the club after just one season.
What will happen next for the former NHL crack remains unclear at the moment. Both an end to your career and a move to another club are currently possible.
