A few weeks ago, HC Meran was in the final of the Alps Hockey League playoffs and only had to admit defeat to the eventual champions from Val Gardena. Now an agreement has been reached with the head coach on further collaboration.
Christian Borgatello took over as head coach at HC Meran in 2024/25 and led the South Tyroleans to the AlpsHL final this year. There, however, they clearly had to admit defeat to HC Gröden with a score of 0:4. Nevertheless, the playing time can be considered a great success. The former defender’s skills did not go unnoticed.
ICEHL team showed interest
The HCB Südtirol Alperia is said to have shown interest in the Merano native. After parting ways with Doug Shedden, they are looking for a new coach. But it definitely won’t be Borgatello, because the Meran native, who was an active defender on the ice for many years, has extended his contract with the Kurstadt team.
The 44-year-old still has a lot planned for the Merano team: “I’m very happy about the contract extension because we have a very good cooperation between the club, coach and players. Our goal is to promote the positive development of the team and my personal development,” said Borgatello to “sportnews.bz“.
