Confirmed: Black Wings Linz are looking for young Austro scorers!

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz secure a local whiz kid and sign Oskar Maier. The 24-year-old native of Upper Austria is moving to his homeland for the next two years after scoring a strong 32 points last season.

Born in Wels, raised in the Red Bull Academy, made a start in the country: With Oskar Maier, the Stahlstadters can win over a rising star. The 24-year-old has been a driving force for Pioneers Vorarlberg over the past three seasons. With 14 goals and 18 assists for the second-to-last team in the table, the attacker recently became the fifth-best Austrian in the win2day Ice Hockey League. After Feldkirch’s early exit after the regular season, Maier was given the chance to prove himself abroad. With the Odense Bulldogs he fought his way to the semi-finals in Denmark’s top division, recording a goal and an assist.

The left-handed shooter made impressive use of his transition to becoming a regular player after leaving Salzburg. The neo-Linzer made 54 appearances for the Eisbullen and was able to call himself part of the championship team in 2022 and 2023. At the same time, he led the Mozartstadt team’s future hopes in the Alps Hockey League as captain. In four seasons, the attacker collected an impressive 95 points (29 goals) in 107 appearances in the second division. Thanks to his performance in the championship, team boss Roger Bader first became aware of him last year. In the future, Maier would like to build on his previous six international matches and establish himself internationally.

Oskar Maier: “The Steinbach Black Wings Linz have secured the services of Oskar Maier for the next two years and are looking forward to their new number 92. I am very motivated to get back on the ice. I can hardly wait and am really looking forward to the new season. Playing as a guest in Linz was always a horror – it’s a real cauldron there. I hope that we can celebrate many victories together, and I want to do my best to achieve that every day.”

Head coach Philipp Lukas: “Oskar has made very strong progress with the Pioneers over the last three years. He is a very promising young Austrian athlete who has already proven what he is capable of, but still has a lot of potential. We would like to exploit this potential together, so we are very much looking forward to working together!”
