The Vienna Capitals and defender Simon Bourque have agreed to extend their cooperation. The 29-year-old Canadian, who moved to Vienna before last season, extended his working paper for another season. Bourque recorded 27 points (9 goals + 18 assists) in a total of 48 games this season. This made the Canadian the Vienna Capitals’ defender with the highest points in the past season of the win2day ICE Hockey League.
Already a few years in the ICEHL
Simon Bourque proved to be a reliable defensive player in his first season in Caps jersey. The Canadian also showed his strengths on offense. Among other things, Bourque was an integral part of the first power play formation. In addition to a total of 18 assists, the 29-year-old also contributed nine goals. In the league, only three other defenders hit the opponent’s goal more often in the regular half. Bourque can now look back on 207 games in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The Canadian scored 118 points (28 goals + 90 assists). Before the defender moved to Vienna, he completed one season in the HCB Südtirol Alperia jersey. In the 2024/25 season, Bourque scored a total of 32 points (8 goals + 24 assists) for the Foxes.
In the 2023/24 season, the Canadian was active in Norway for the Stavanger Oilers. Bourque’s first stop in the win2day ICE Hockey League was HC TIWAG Innsbruck, for whom he played from 2021 to 2023. In the Sharks jersey, the left-handed shooter contributed a total of 59 goals (11 goals + 48 assists).
Some experience
Before that, the defender completed the 2020/21 season as captain of the Boxers de Bordeaux in the French Ligue Magnus, whose top-scoring defender was the now 29-year-old. Before Bourque moved to Europe, the Canadian, who was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2015, went on the ice in the LNAH for Thetford Mines Assurancia, among others. In the American Hockey League, the defender wore the Laval Rocket and St. John’s IceCaps jerseys. At the highest junior level, the left-handed shooter completed 256 appearances for Rimouski Océanic. With the team from southeastern Quebec, Bourque won the QMJHL title twice.
