The Pioneers Vorarlberg squad planning continues to be characterized by numerous departures. Defender Louie Roehl is now the next player to leave the ICEHL club.
The strong offensive defender is moving to the Frederikshavn White Hawks in Denmark, where he has signed a contract for the coming season. The signing was officially announced on Tuesday.
The future of the Pioneers remains open
Roehl is one of several players who have left the Pioneers in recent weeks. The situation surrounding the club continues to cause uncertainty. It is currently still unclear what will happen organizationally and sportingly for the club in the ICE Hockey League.
The American only came to Vorarlberg last season and quickly developed into an important pillar in the defense. Roehl knew how to set a tone particularly offensively and was considered his team’s highest-scoring defender.
Successful career in NCAA and ECHL
Before his time in Austria, Roehl played five years in the NCAA for the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he won the championship twice. This was followed by three years with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, where he ultimately took over the captaincy.
