Record world champion Canada is also going to the next one IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with a top-class line-up. The Canadian association has now presented its squad for the tournament in Switzerland – and there are numerous NHL stars in the squad.
Celebrini leads young star ensemble
The focus is particularly on super talent Macklin Celebrini. The only 19-year-old attacker San Jose Sharks is already one of the most exciting players in the NHL and is heading to the World Championship again after his strong season.
Celebrini was one of Canada’s most striking offensive players at the Winter Olympics and is now set to play a key role at the World Cup.

Offensive power from the NHL
In addition to Celebrini, Canada is relying on a lot of experience and quality from the NHL. Among other things, stand Matthew Barzal of the New York Islanders, Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets, John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as Ryan O’Reilly of the Nashville Predators in the squad.
The defense is also prominent. With Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers Canada has one of the most offensive defensemen in the league. The Defender also starred alongside Leon Draisaitl with the Oilers.
Crosby and McDavid are missing
However, Superstar is not there Sidney Crosbywho took part in the World Cup the previous year. Also Connor McDavid canceled his participation after the early playoff exit. The NHL top scorer is currently suffering from an injury.
Despite the high-profile failures, Canada is once again one of the big favorites for the gold medal.
Opening against Sweden
The World Cup begins on May 15th in Switzerland. Canada will be among others in the group stage Sweden, Czech Republic, Denmark and Slovakia. The duel with Sweden awaits at the start.
The Canadians want to win their 29th World Cup gold. Most recently, the record world champion remained without a medal twice in a row.
