The newly crowned champions of the Alps Hockey League can also rely on their successful coach in the coming season: HC Gherdëina has extended the contract with Marcel Skokan. After the historic title win, both sides quickly agreed on further cooperation – this is reported by “Sportnews”.
From the bottom of the table to winning the title
The 51-year-old Slovakian only took over the Furie last November and then brought about an impressive turnaround. When Skokan took over as coach, Val Gardena was only eleventh in the table. With a lot of passion, clear decisions and a strong team spirit, he ultimately led the team sensationally to the first AlpsHL championship title in the club’s history.
Sports director Joel Brugnoli was very satisfied with the coach’s work: Skokan managed to form a real unit out of many strong individual players. That’s why the desire for a contract extension quickly appeared on both sides.
Return to a familiar place of work
This is Skokan’s second term in Val Gardena. Between 2014 and 2017 he worked successfully in the club’s youth sector and won two Italian championship titles with the junior teams.
He then gained experience at home and abroad, including at HC Pustertal, in Poland and in Germany, before returning to Val Gardena.
