After a turbulent season, the EC iDM VSV is still in a phase of change. Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Martin Winkler spoke in an interview with MeinBezirk.at about the sporting reality, the financial framework and the long-term goals of the club.
High expectations in Carinthia
Winkler was particularly clear when assessing the current sporting situation. While there are traditionally high expectations in Carinthia and many fans continue to dream of winning the championship, the VSV boss warns of reality.
“A place in the top 6 is currently a very ambitious goal,” explained Winkler openly. The reason for this lies primarily in the changed framework conditions within the ICEHL. In recent years, many clubs have caught up massively, both financially and infrastructurally, or even overtaken the VSV.
Infrastructure should take the next step
Meanwhile, the club has high hopes for the new second hall. In addition to benefits for young talent, the new VIP area is intended to generate additional income.
The VSV also wants to work much more professionally in the area of off-ice training in the future and catch up with modern training and testing methods. “Maybe we won’t always have the best team, but we want to at least be one of the fittest teams in the league,” said Winkler.
The aim is to at least partially compensate for the lack of financial opportunities and remain competitive in the long term.
