The Zeltweg Murtal Lions can look back on a very successful debut season in AHC Division 1. Now they want more and to upgrade the squad. But media reports “are only partially correct,” as the Styrians make it clear.
After the collapse of the Styrian Elite League, the Zeltweger Löwen moved to the Carinthian Division 1 last summer and immediately made it into the top 4. In the playoffs, however, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Hornets from Spittal.

Now they want more in Aichfeld and are fishing for none other than the league’s top scorer: Adis Alagic is set to play in Styria next season, as the “Kronen Zeitung” reports. Alagic speaks to the daily newspaper of “a tempting offer”, Ferlach boss Christian Cozelenka, with whom Alagic was under contract for the last two seasons, chooses much more drastic words: “That’s dubious, they’re showering him with money. Financially, I’m not taking any risks, I won’t take part in the bidding!”
Zeltweg puts it into perspective
It would be surprising that the big windfall broke out in Aichfeld. We asked chairman Chris Mayerl and he immediately put things into perspective: “We spoke to Adis after the season, but nothing concrete. We just wanted to register our interest, nothing more. Other clubs are also likely to be very interested in getting Adis under contract.”
Mayerl also makes it clear that Alagic is not trying to “pour money” into anything else: “We certainly don’t go into any financial adventures and we don’t have any “bidding competitions” going on either. I don’t know what’s so dubious about contacting a player after the season, but unfortunately the Euro truck hasn’t arrived here either so that we can shower a player with money.”
Decision still open
It is clear that the 31-year-old, who played 336 ICEHL games in his professional career for VSV, Olimpija Ljubljana and the Graz99ers, is in demand. And rightly so: in the two seasons so far in Ferlach, Alagic scored 46 goals and provided 69 assists. And all of this from just 42 missions. It remains to be seen who will win the race for scorer…
