Experienced Raphael Herburger, who played all EC-KAC competition games last season, will stay in his adopted hometown and will continue to wear the red jacket jersey in the coming season.
The EC-KAC is pleased to announce that Raphael Herburger will also be part of the Austrian record champions’ squad for the 2026/27 season. The club did not activate the early termination clause in the striker’s contract, meaning that it was automatically valid until the end of the coming season.
This summer, Raphael Herburger will be entering his ninth season in Klagenfurt, where he has now started a family and settled down. The Vorarlberg native came to the EC-KAC in 2008 at the age of just 19, with whom he won the championship title for the first time a few months later and then again in 2013. After stints at EC Salzburg (2016 to 2020) and in Switzerland (2013 to 2016 at EHC Biel-Bienne and from 2020 at HC Lugano), the attacker returned to the Red Jackets in the summer of 2023, with whom he has since won the regular season in the win2day ICE Hockey League twice and reached the playoff finals just as often. In total, the now 37-year-old has played in 407 competitive games for the EC-KAC so far, collecting 210 points (71 goals, 139 assists), with the last two seasons being his best in terms of scorer points in the red and white jersey.
General Manager Oliver Pilloni: “Raphael Herburger gives our team a lot of routine; he has already experienced pretty much everything in European ice hockey. He brings this experience into our dressing room, and the many young players in our team benefit from them. Even at the age of 37, he has a very good feel for his own body and its needs, so he didn’t miss a single one of our 60 competition games last season. Raphael Herburger has neither the offensive productivity nor the defensive sense of responsibility “After losing weight, there was no doubt in our minds that he should also be part of our team next year.”
