The former goalkeeper of the
HK Olimpija LjubljanaAnthony Morrone, has provided clarity about his sporting future. The 27-year-old Canadian will remain with the team next season
Lusatian foxes in the DEL2 and is thus continuing his development in Germany.
ICEHL station: Difficult phase in Ljubljana
In the 2022/23 season, Morrone was at HK Olimpija Ljubljana
ICE Hockey League
between the posts. There he made a total of 20 appearances, in which he recorded an average goals conceded of 3.78 and a catch rate of 88.4 percent. He also remained without a shutout and achieved a record of six wins and twelve defeats with his team. Overall, the season was difficult, which was also due to the team’s defensive vulnerability.
Bright spot in the national competition
However, Morrone presented himself significantly better in the Slovenian competition. In the playoffs he played three games in which he only allowed 1.33 goals per game and achieved a strong catch rate of 93.7 percent. He also managed a shutout while winning all three games. These performances were an important factor in winning the national title and showed what potential he has.
Reboot and development
After his time in Ljubljana, he moved to the
Sheffield Steelerswhere Morrone quickly found his way back to success. He then moved to Germany to join the Lausitzer Füchse, where he established himself as a reliable goalkeeper and achieved catch rates of over 92 percent in recent seasons.
Future secured in Germany
With the recent contract extension with the Lausitzer Füchsen, his future has now been clarified. Morrone has improved significantly after his mixed time in the ICEHL and is now one of the consistent goalkeepers in the DEL2. The coming season offers him the chance to further expand this positive trend and finally establish himself as one of the top goalies in the league.
