NHL: Jonathan Quick puts his goalie pads in the corner!

Jonathan Quick, one of the most successful American goalkeepers, has ended his career. Last night he was on the ice for the last time in the best league in the world.

At the age of 40, Jonathan Quick ended his long professional career, which began in 2007/08. After two years at the University of Massachusetts, Quick made his debut for the Los Angeles Kings, who secured the rights to the American in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The 1st overall pick at the time? Sidney Crosby.

California as a “second home”

Quick spent no less than 16 years with the Californians and won 370 games there. He also briefly played for the Vegas Golden Knights and for the last three years for the New York Rangers. In total, the Connecticut-born netminder made 828 NHL appearances. His 410 wins are the most by a US goalie in NHL history. Ryan Miller (391) and John Vanbiesbrouck (374) take second and third place in this ranking. The next active goaltender is Connor Hellebuyck, who currently has 345 wins.

Three cups as a career highlight

Quick was able to lift a total of three Stanley Cups in his long career. In 2011/12 he was even awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy thanks to an outstanding playoff performance. His team had the lowest average goals conceded twice.

Last night was the final note: Quick was in the New York Rangers’ 81st game of the season. The Blueshirts lost 3-2 to the Florida Panthers. Even before the encounter, he announced that this would be his last appearance at the NHL level.
