HC Falkensteiner Pustertal dethroned EC Red Bull Salzburg with a sweep on Tuesday. The South Tyroleans prevailed in the fourth quarter-final duel shortly before midnight – captain Andergassen scored the decisive goal in the third extra time.
With a total duration of over 105 minutes, the encounter is the fourth longest game in the history of the win2day ICE Hockey League. The record still comes from the 2019 quarter-finals between HCB Südtirol Alperia and EC-KAC, when the Klagenfurt team won after 120 minutes and 51 seconds.
The Red Bulls also took the lead in the fourth duel: Late in the first third, Schneider, for whom it was the only point scored in the series, set up for the guests. Purdeller equalized in the middle period. Otherwise, the goalies Pasquale and Kickert left their mark on the game. Both made strong saves, which is why the score remained 1-1 until the third overtime. The South Tyroleans then had the upper hand shortly before midnight – captain Andergassen scored in the 106th minute in the fourth longest game in league history.
The longest comparison in league history remains the quarter-finals on March 15, 2019, when Johannes Bischofberger scored the final point for the EC-KAC after 120:51 minutes against HCB Südtirol Alperia. Salzburg was also involved in the second and third longest duel: in 2023 the Red Bulls lost in Bolzano after over 115 minutes, and in 2015 they prevailed in the quarter-finals in Villach after more than 111 minutes.
