Tigers sign first-round pick Andresen

The Medicine Hat Tigers have signed 2020 WHL Bantam Draft first-round pick, 11th overall, Reid Andresen to his WHL Education Contract. The blueliner had 13 goals and 38 assists in 31 games for the Saskatoon Generals Bantam AA. Check out his DUBNetwork Scouting Profile here. 

Cougars sign 17th overall pick

Over in Prince George, the Cougars have signed 17th overall pick in this year’s draft Caden Brown to his WHL Education Contract. He tallied 35 goals and 30 assists in 30 games playing for Delta Bantam Prep in the CSSHL and you can check out his DUBNetwork Scouting profile here. 

Giants sign third-round pick Semeniuk

Broncos sign 2019 fourth-round pick

The Swift Current Broncos signed 2019 fourth-round pick Josh Filmon to his WHL Education Contract. In 36 games with the RINK Hockey Academy Elite 15s, he had 21 goals and 19 assists.

ICE sign Andrews to Education Contract

The Winnipeg ICE signed 2019 sixth-round pick Brayden Edwards to a WHL Education Contract. Suiting up for the Yale Hockey Academy Lions in the CSSHL, Edwards had 14 goals and 15 assists in 36 games.

Rebels sign Larson to Education Contract

The Red Deer Rebels have signed 2019 eighth-round pick Jhett Larson to his WHL Education Contract. Our Paul Figler has written about it here. 

Graduating Crossley signs in Sweden

Austin Crossley (159 GP, 8 G, 13 A with the Prince Albert Raiders and Prince George Cougars from 2016-2020) has signed with Kalix in Sweden for the 2020-21 season. Last season he had one assist in 12 games with the Cougars spending most of the season with the USHL’s Fargo Force.

Beckman named WHL Top Scorer

Spokane Chiefs forward Adam Beckman has been named the WHL’s Top Scorer. The Minnesota Wild prospect finished with 48 goals and 59 assists in 63 games.

SMHL’s Blazers receive commitments from WHL prospects

The SMHL’s Saskatoon Blazers have announced commitments from the following WHL prospects.

  • Reid Andreson and James Venne (Medicine Hat Tigers)
  • Holden Doell (Lethbridge Hurricanes)
  • Matty Edwards (Vancouver Giants)

Legionnaires receive commitments from two WHL prospects

The Swift Current Legionnaires of the SMHL have received commitments from Brady Smith (Vancouver Giants) and Carter Herman (Regina Pats).

USHL Draft sees 21 WHL Prospects selected

The USHL held their Phase 1 Draft on Monday and there were a total of 21 WHL prospects who were selected:

Eller signs in VHL

Mads Eller (112 GP, 16 G, 34 A with the Edmonton Oil Kings from 2013-15) has signed with Saryarka Karangada in the VHL. Last season he notched 10 goals and 22 assists playing 45 games for the Rodovre Mighty Bulls.

Bloodoff re-signs with Blaze

Evan Bloodoff (280 GP, 56 G, 47 A with the Kelowna Rockets from 2006-11) has re-signed with the Coventry Blaze for the 2020-21 season. Last season he had 22 goals (second on the team) and 13 assists in 48 games.

Kozun nominated for Canada West Male Athlete of the Year

Taran Kozun (135 GP, 2.73 GAA, .912 Save Percentage with the Kamloops Blazers and Seattle Thunderbirds from 2011-15) has been nominated for the Canada West Male Athlete of the Year. Kozun is currently attending school at the University of Saskatchewan where he plays for the Huskies. He posted a 17-3-2-0 record in 22 games with a 1.87 GAA and .931 save percentage en route to a Canada West Championship for the Huskies.

Grimwood joins Capitals

Geoff Grimwood, who spent three seasons with the Victoria Royals as an assistant coach from 2012-15, has joined the BCHL’s Cowichan Capitals as head coach and General Manager.

Dupont hired by AJHL’s Canucks

Micki Dupont (259 GP, 55 G, 157 A with the Kamloops Blazers from 1996-2000) has joined the AJHL’s Calgary Canucks as an assistant coach. After graduating from the WHL, Dupont went on to have a 20-year professional career with stops in San Diego, Long Beach, Saint John, Calgary, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Berlin, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Peoria, Zug, and Kloten.
