Daily Dose of the Dub: Broncos acquire Sambrook, release McGauley; Blazers reassign Ludwar

Brandon ships Sambrook west to Swift Current

The Swift Current Broncos traded for blue liner Garrett Sambrook on Friday, and he’ll join the team immediately. Sambrook, 18, was originally the Brandon Wheat Kings’ sixth-round pick in the 2015 WHL Draft. He spent last season between Brandon and Virden of the MJHL. In a corresponding move, the Broncos released 18-year-old winger Colum McGauley.

Blazers reassign Ludwar to BCHL

The Kamloops Blazers have reassigned 1999-born d-man Tylor Ludwar to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. Ludwar recorded three points and 82 penalty minutes last year. He had only gotten into one game this season.

Three stars of the night:

  1. Schael Higson (Brandon) – Recorded a point on each of his teams five goals, finishing the night with two goals and three assists, including the primary helper on the game-winner in OT. He also made a sliding save in the crease, bailing out his netminder in the first period.
  2. Max Gerlach (Saskatoon) – Registered a hat trick, including the OT-forcing goal with 16 seconds remaining in regulation and the game-winner late in the extra frame.
  3. Connor Dewar (Everett) – Scored twice and added two assists to help the Silvertips rally past the Oil Kings. Also went 15-for-21 in the faceoff circle.
