Daily Dose of the Dub: Americans acquire Schmiemann; Royals remain last unbeaten team

The Tri-City Americans have acquired 6’4″ d-man Dom Schmiemann from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a pair of draft picks. Schmiemann is on the move for the second time in less than a year, as he was dealt to Calgary last season as part of that package that sent forwards Matteo Gennaro and Beck Malenstyn to Swift Current. He finished last season with a goal and 13 assists between the two clubs.

Royals improve to 6-0-0, now last undefeated team in WHL

The Victoria Royals edged the Kamloops Blazers 2-1 on Friday to improve to a perfect 6-0-0, and are now the last unbeaten team after Prince Albert fell to Red Deer. Dante Hannoun’s fourth goal of the season midway through the third period proved to be the game winner, and marks the third straight game that he’s scored in. Griffen Outhouse stopped 26-of-27 shots en route to being named the game’s First Star.

Three Stars of the Night:

  1. Tristan Langan (Moose Jaw) – Recorded a natural hat trick and set up the game-winning goal to Ryan Peckford in the Warriors’ 5-4 win over Swift Current on Friday. Now leads the team with five goals this season.
  2. Jordan Hollett (Medicine Hat) – Backstopped the Tigers to their second win in Washington in as many nights with a 36-save shutout.
  3. Ethan Anders (Red Deer) – Stopped 49-of-52 shots (both career highs) to help the Rebels edge the undefeated Raiders. Now averaging 40.5 shots faced through first six games of season.

Honorable mentions: Jiri Patera 37 saves in a 7-3 Brandon Wheat Kings win over the Regina Pats, Dawson Davidson two assists in Saskatoon’s 3-2 shootout win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Liam Hughes made 44 saves on 45 shots for the Seattle Thunderbirds as they downed the Kelowna Rockets 4-1, Dante Hannoun scored the game winning goal keeping the Victoria Royals undefeated through six WHL games, Bowen Byram scored a beautiful goal and added an assist to push the Vancouver Giants past the Prince George Cougars 3-2,Eli Zummack scored the game winner and added an assist as the Spokane Chiefs downed the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2, Joachim Blichfeld scored twice and added an assist as the Portland Winterhawks scored a 4-1 win over the Everett Silvertips.
