Silvertips look to rebound after tough loss in Kelowna

The first time out on the road was a struggle for the 1-2-0-0 Everett Silvertips. They fell in Kelowna to the Rockets 5-1. Jackson Berezowski had the lone goal for the ‘Tips and it came on a breakaway with 6:49 left in regulation.

Kelowna’s shooters had time and space often to pick corners on Everett goalie Dustin Wolf. Former Seattle Thunderbirds defenseman Jake Lee opened the scoring with his first as a Rocket.

Wolf was pulled from the Everett net for the first time this season after allowing four goals on 27 shots over 40 minutes. Backup goalie Keegan Karki came in and saw his first WHL regular season action in relief. He stopped five-of-six shots.

Dawson Butt was assessed a two minute minor for roughing and then got a 10 minute misconduct right afterwards early in the third period. Overage forward Max Patterson got a mouthguard violation and was also give misconduct  less than eight minutes later.

Next up for Everett are two more road games on Friday and Saturday. First, they go back to B.C. and take on the Kamloops Blazers 2-3-0-0. Then they head to Spokane for a match up with the now 1-1-1-0 Chiefs. The game against Kelowna was the first of four straight on the road for Everett.

Bear Tracks…

-Overage defenseman Jake Christiansen remains in the AHL with the San Antonio Rampage. He is still listed as one of the 10 blue liners on the preseason roster. The Rampage’s preseason camp concludes on Thursday, October 3rd. He has yet to be signed and should be returned if still unsigned. The Rampage kick off their regular season on Friday at home and have played both of their preseason games.

-It seems like a decision will be made on signing him or not very soon.

-Everett went 3-1 against Kelowna last season, winning both at Prospera Place.

-Import forward Martin Fasko-Rudas is finally back in Everett but still looks to be not quite ready for game play. Michal Gut also was seen by Josh Horton of the Everett Herald in a non-contact jersey for the second week in-a-row. Meanwhile, 2000-born defenseman Gianni Fairbrother is inching closer to making his season debut, out of the non-contact jersey. Fairbrother suffered an upper body injury while at Montreal Canadiens camp.

-Everett’s power play went 0-for-7 in Kelowna. It is now just 2-for-16, good for 12.5 percent and 17th in the WHL.

-Their penalty kill is 16th in the league at 75 percent. It is 12-for-16.

-Everett announced that they had acquired 2002-born forward Tyson Phare in exchange for a sixth round pick in 2023. Phare was drafted 18th overall out of the Yale Hockey Academy by the Prince George Cougars in 2017 as a defenseman. Phare was traded to the Lethbridge Hurricanes by P.G. for then unsigned 2003-born forward Fischer O’Brien. Fischer, the younger sibling of former Cougar Brogan O’Brien signed with the Cougars since the trade.

Phare played in 14 games as a 16-year-old last season with the Cougars and has played in two games with the ‘Canes this season.
