Daily Dose of the Dub: Stat night in Portland for Glass and co.; Hurricanes get big overtime win

Former WHLer claimed by L.A.

Nikita Scherbak, the former Saskatoon Blade and Everett Silvertip was claimed off of waivers by the L.A. Kings. He was placed on waivers Saturday by the Montreal Canadiens, who took him in the first round of the NHL Draft in 2014.

Three stars of the night:

  1. Cody Glass (Portland) – Two goals and three assists for five points. He also extended his point-streak to 14 games in Portland’s 10-2 blowout win over the visiting Kootenay ICE.
  2. Jared Freadrich (Portland) – Five assists for the Winterhawks defenseman. His 21 total assists this season is tied for sixth most in the WHL. The five assists are a career high.
  3. Taylor Ross (Lethbridge) – Three goals and an assist for Ross as the Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Red Deer Rebels 5-4 in overtime.

Honorable mentions:

Vladislav Mikhalchuk notched two goals and the Prince George Cougars got the weekend split with the Victoria Royals by beating them 5-3… James Hamblin and Bryan Lockner each had a goal and an assist and the Medicine Hat Tigers came back from a 2-0 deficit to win over the Regina Pats 3-2… Riley Stotts assisted on four of the Calgary Hitmen’s five goals in their 5-1 win over the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors… Milos Roman had a goal and an assist for two points as the Vancouver Giants swept their weekend series with the Tri-City Americans 4-2… Joachim Blichfeld had his second hat-trick this season and added an assist. He now has 53 points, third in the WHL. His 25 goals are second in the WHL – two behind Prince Albert’s Brett Leason… Rookie defenseman Nolan Jones had the OT winner in the Lethbridge win… Brett Davis had three points in his second game with the Rebels.

Troubling moments:

Jackson Leppard was given a game misconduct as the game ended in Prince George’s win… 22 seconds into the third period, Calgary overage forward Luke Coleman was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.
