Daily Dose of the Dub: McClennon plays hero for Canada White; Portland outscores Spokane

U17s get back going

-The day after a storm delayed action in Quispamis, New Brunswick – one of the sites of the U7 World Hockey Challenge, not only did the Canada Red and Russia game finish, but Canada Black took on Canada White at Saint John, New Brunswick.

The goals from Seattle’s Payton Mount and Portland’s Seth Jarvis were not enough for Canada Red in Quispamis as they fell to Russia 4-2.

Kootenay’s Connor McClennon set up the game-tying goal for Canada White 7:36 into the third period and then notched the overtime winner 35 seconds into the extra session to lead his squad to a 5-4 win over Canada Black.

Edmonton’s Jake Neighbours and Moose Jaw’s Daemon Hunt had an assist each for their teams.

Three stars of the night:

  1. Jared Freadrich (Portland) – Notched a career-high four points (all assists) in the Winterhawks’ 8-6 win over the Chiefs.
  2. Linus Nassen (Medicine Hat) – Scored two goals including the eventual game winner, and added an assist in his team’s 5-4 win over Calgary.
  3. Joachim Blichfeld (Portland) – Registered points on five of his team’s eight goals (two goals, three assists). Now ranks third in WHL with 35 points, and extends his multi-point streak to three games.
